"A Show of Hands"
Senior Thesis Project

A Show of Hands is a series of felt-toy characters based upon modern hand gestures and signals. This system of communication is a ubiquitous language, conveying both ideas and emotions. Each of the twenty-five characters have a distinct meaning understood primarily by young adults, however, each variation also reveals slight changes. The information graphic illustrates the extensive possibilities of the gesture and outlines the evolution of the gestures by detailing the origins, influences, and interpretations in different cultures. By giving the nonverbal behavior a narrative accompanied by documentation, the project provides necessary information to interpret this playful form of communication.
